Position Overview

MTM’s Structural Design team is expanding, working on a multitude of projects across the MTM Network. The Senior Structural Design Engineer will produce and check Structural designs per Metro Trains standards and railway best practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete design activities relating to the development of Structures design (existing and new structures such as bridges, retaining walls, buildings. stations, underground structures and overhead wire and signalling support structures) including drawings, design reports, engineering calculations, and other outputs as necessary to provide assurance that the design meets MTM requirements.
  • Apply infrastructure, engineering standards and system specifications to prepare designs.
  • Identify and assist in resolving non-conformances with the design standards or the operational requirements and provide recommendation on granting of waivers.
  • Assist with the preparation of design specifications for the collection of design inputs such as site survey.
  • Provide technical advice on projects to other officers/divisions and external parties as directed
  • Adherence to all legislative and regulatory requirements including conducting and participating in Safety in Design, risk assessments, and peer reviews as required.

Experience Criteria

  • Experience in using project management methodologies
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel knowledge and ability
  • Provide service across multiple business areas in a large organisation
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate for key outcomes
  • Experience in Civil / Rail Infrastructure projects

Qualification & Skills

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering suitable for membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia or an appropriate technical qualification with proven industry capability acceptable to MTM 
  • Experience operating at Senior level holding 6-10+ years industry experience
